It’s with a whole party mix of emotions that I’m letting you know, after years of marrying the most marvelous couples, I’m closing my books, indefinitely.

Since having my daughter, time has become a little more precious. (And hard to come by.) So I’m getting a bit of it back, for myself and for my family. This autumn wedding season will be my last for a while.

I absolutely adore weddings. They are outrageously fun! And love filled! And they have great canapés!

I also love celebrant-ing. It’s pure, joyous work, and I’m incredibly thankful to every couple that has entrusted me with getting them married over the years. I’m also proud of the business I’ve built. And I fully intend to come back to it, when the time is right.

Being a celebrant means meeting couples at what’s often the happiest time of their lives. When they’re gloriously loved-up, excited about the future and pumped to see what the next chapter holds. It’s one of my favourite things about this job.

Well, that’s me now: Happy. Full of love. Excited for the future, whatever that holds. (And, just between you and me, I reckon it holds a bunch of lazy Saturdays with zero plans.)

If you’ve emailed me this month and I’ve taken a thousand years to reply, Gah! Apologies! It’s not me, it’s this tiny human… Otherwise known as Eliza Grace, otherwise known as The Milk Monster, otherwise known as My Newest Most Favouritest Person Ever. I’ve had a few unexpected postpartum challenges that have made this time a bit trickier than expected, but I am ever-so-slowly getting back into the swing of things. And I’m very much looking forward to jumping out of elasticized pants and back into celebranting from August. (With an adorable sidekick who I hope will be very efficient at filing paperwork.)

Ask me what I love most about this job! Or don’t, and I’ll tell you anyway… It’s getting to marry epic couples like Kellie-Anne and Sarah. And then getting to brag endlessly about the super lovely reviews they leave me.

Perks of celebrant-ing with a third trimester pregnant belly:
1. A built-in 'shelf' to rest your script on.
2. Kind people offer to carry your bags.
3. No one judges you for snacking before/after/during. (Okay, maybe not during.)

I've finished my last weddings before I go on maternity leave, but I am still meeting new couples, so if you're getting hitched in late 2022 or 2023, do get in touch. Dates are limited! But I'd love to marry you, if I can! (With more outfit options.) (But still plenty of snacking, probably.)

"Marriage according to law in Australia is the union of two people." As a celebrant, that monitum is something I've said maaannny times. It rolls off the tongue. And I barely have to think about it. But on my own wedding day, those words rang differently in my ears.

I don't take for granted that I was able to stand up in front of our closest family and friends, and a very dapper legal celebrant (ahem, @benagersydneycelebrant), to marry my wife. That we are able to love and live as a family, in every way. With a fancy marriage certificate to show for it.

That didn’t just happen. We owe everything to the LGBTQIA+ community who came before us – the people who fought to get here, the people who continue to fight, and all the people who support and encourage them. My heart is filled with gratitude, always.

And just a whole lot of love. 🌈

Married! 💕 Did I initially plan to get hitched at seven months pregnant on a steaming hot day in February? I didn’t! (That’s how the Covid cookie crumbles.) But did I still have a friggen perfect day and nab myself a perfect wife? I did!
